Subject: FIX: VJAMM interface not visible, interface cut off
Posted: Sun Oct 30, 2011 7:39 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 10

When i tried to run the most recent version of VJamm (3.1.21) under Windows 7 Pro SP1 I could not see the entire interface - the bottom half of the clip bank was being cut off visually. After some fiddling, I found a fix:

1. Right-click the app and choose properties. Then, under the compatibility tab, tick off the box that reads "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select "Windows XP SP3". (not doing this will cause a fatal error and the app will not launch at all - SP2 works as well it seems)

2. Now you must ALSO tick off the box that reads "Disable desktop composition". Click "Apply" and "OK".

The GUI should now be totally visible when you launch the app!

Problem is that, as far as I know, no VJ video mixers really do anything other than composite/S-Video...

BTW I got a Dell Precision M6300 portable workstation that is more than powerful enough to rock VJamm and it has built-in S-Video with overscan capability... WINNING!!

Some of the old svideo machines had a checkbox in the drivers to make it scan up properly. I've got 2 old Dells that have nice S-sockets on them (+ other pins for the breakout) - an Inspiron 6000 and an XPS 1210. Sadly S has gone a bit out of fashion...

Sounds like a false alarm to me. HASP is the highest quality of all the hardware protection systems, used by 3D Studio, Autocad and many other industry classics. I very much doubt they're shipping viruses or we would have heard about it.

Has anyone had any problems with AVG Rootkit scanner seeing the VJamm dongle drivers as a rootkit?

I recently ran AVG Free Rootkit scan for the first time. It identified various hooks from windows\system32\drivers\haspnt.sys as rootkit. I removed the haspnt.sys file, rescanned, no rootkit found - but VJamm 3 Pro would not run as dongle not found. Reinstalled the dongle drivers, Vjamm 3 Pro runs - but AVG finds the same Rootkit again.

Is this a real rootkit or a false alarm? Can't see anything on Forums or web.

Hi,

We've had some good results recently with MPEG4 for HD stuff. At 720 you should be able to use all the normal codecs really. As ever every frame a keyframe codecs are better for choppy scratching style performance, temporally compressed codecs like mpeg are good for big files that you will basically just play.

You should be able to load very long clips now in VJamm Pro - over an hour should be no problem if your system is up to it. The latest versions of VJamm Pro automatically load long clips using the new audio smooth stream playback system. This means that you no longer need lots of RAM for big clips, and they should load quickly.

One other thing to note on big clips is that with the latest codecs Direct Show is finally performing better than VFW. The framerate difference is considerable on Win7 64 with the latest FFDshow codecs. It is possible to tell VJamm to use Direct Show rather than VFW in your VJamm Patch files:

[SourceSystems]
1=ssDS
2=ssVFW

This tells VJamm to load clip 1 of this patch on DS, clip 2 on VFW. You can always see which system is in use for each clip by hovering over the big VJamm thumbnails when clips are loaded into slots.

Hope that helps, we're getting some incredible framerates and multistream stuff going on in our latest testing here, but as ever there's plenty to get used to with the latest codec offerings...

All the best,
Russell
