We have used VJamm to control images on a large book, in a stage production of 'Wonderland', a burlesque/live music/dancing/performance art presentation of Lewis Carroll's' 'Alice in Wonderland'. This was put together originally at the beginning of 2009, presented in April of '09, and then just revisited again for New Years Eve (and that weekend, and this past weekend). While VJamm was not used to it's fullest potential, it was the perfect tool for the job, as some scenes during the show had images that were triggered either during a music queue (a guitar sound, to show Alice growing or shrinking), or triggered during a word or phrase, not to mention image changes between curtain closes.

Some images from my blackberry (me being Pete.. I got to actually see the show this time, last time, I was backstage controlling this!)

Roxi Dlite, the star of the show, doing her spinning hoop burlesque act, while an animation of 'falling' in the book plays behind her.

The 'Caterpillar' scene:

probably the best way to get an idea of the show, is from the HD video posted on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApgMe1mL3I8

Jason McCombs (one half of Los Minstrels Del Diablo) is on of the producers/writers/stage directors/animators of the show. Casey Miller was his partner on this, and everyone involved... very good friends of mine!

All the music is original and written and performed by The Glass Orphans (made of members of 'The Electric Lions' and 'Questions'), with vocals by Hayley Jane (voice of Alice) and Nichole Davilla (Dormouse).
http://www.myspace.com/wonderlanddetroit

It's an amazing show!

Featuring:
Roxi D'Lite!
Pend Suspension!
Drew Bardo of The Questions!
Electric Lions!
VJamm Forum :: Panasonic MX50 mixing desk

I'm re-posting this because for some crazy reason I originally wrote Yamaha when I meant Panasonic.

Does anyone out there have an old Panasonic MX50 a/v mixer for sale?
Or better still, can anyone point me towards a more modern desk with the same NAM (non-additive mix) facility?

I've been using an MX50 for years now. It's a cumbersome beast to carry around but I love it, and sooner or later it's going to die on me and I'm going to be distraught. Unless I've got backup.

My basic set up for performance is two laptops running VJamm 3, two dvd decks, and a Yamaha MX50. I've stuck with the same mixer for nearly a decade, on the principle: 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', although everything else has been upgraded several times. Consequently I have very little idea of what other people are using. I know vjs who use Edirol mixers, but the ones I've seen don't have the NAM facility. Can anyone advise me? Or sell me an audio-visual antique?

Thanks for any help. BTW I'm based in Cambridge, UK.

Do you mean a panasonic mx50?

I have one i might sell but it needs some electronic work done to it.

Works perfectly just doesn't like laptop signals for some reason. Accepts live feeds no problem, but maybe that doesn't help you.

Let me know.

This new version is the result of many years of work on dealing with large video clips, as well as the release of the new 4 track system developed for Gridio as part of www.energyunion.eu

You can get the new versions of VJamm Standard and Pro on the VJamm Auto Update system. In VJamm go Auto Update - Check Now to get these updates.

- The new clip streaming mode allows long clips to be loaded without the need for RAM preload. This means very fast loading times for even very long clips, and no need to have vast amounts of RAM. By default long clips will now load in streaming mode rather than the old business of loading long clips in silent mode. Streaming clips can only go forwards, but otherwise they benefit from the full VJamm speed / pitch control, and timebase.

- VJamm now has an 'Exclusive Groups' option in preferences. This splits the 16 clips up into 4 groups of 4 ('4 track'). When Exclusive Groups is enabled, there will only ever be 1 sync mode clip playing from each group of 4. New sync mode clip triggers will switch playback to the newly triggered clip and stop any other sync mode clips from that group. This new 4 track system has been developed for use on our interactive VJamm dancefloor installation 'Gridio' as part of Energy Union.

If anyone needs to do a manual upgrade, you can get the new exes here:

Pro:
http://vjamm.com/download/3.1.18/VJamm3.1.18pro.zip

Standard:
http://vjamm.com/download/3.1.18/VJamm3.1.18std.zip

Put these exes in your VJamm Program Files folder. You can either keep running these exes, or you can archive your old VJamm3.exe, and replace it with the new one, renaming the exe you find in the zip to VJamm3.exe - then your start button shortcuts etc will work.

thanks
Hi again,

I'm not aware of anyone getting one of these adapters to work with the dongle yet. Please correct me if anyone knows better, it would be handy for folks to know if there was one that worked.
Hi Jerome,

VJamm development has traditionally always been driven by commissions for new features. As you may know, a large part of VJamm development has been sponsored in this way by Matt Black of Coldcut. The most recent commission was for the Energy Union tour - to provide new 4 track functionality for Gridio.

Blueprint development is not actually sleeping quite as it seems - a great deal of development has occurred since the last release version of the blueprint (I think of this as VJamm 4 technology). In development versions we have many more than 16 clips running, but these are blueprint / vjamm 4 dev. versions, no plans for >16 in VJamm 3 I'm afraid at the moment.

You are right that we haven't been in an active release cycle recently. We have always been quite conservative in our releases - we prefer to have a good solid release version that has been properly tested than to have stuff going out that we're not quite happy with yet. We are developing AV technology very actively right now, but the likelihood is that VJamm 3 releases will continue to follow on from functionality commissions.

The longer term future of VJamm has very many possibilities, and I can't say where we'll go yet. When we wrote VJamm 1, VJing was in its infancy. Video is now growing up and many new directions are opening up. Sorry I can't be more specific, just telling it how it is.

In the meantime I'm about to release the beta that you mentioned. The version numbers don't tell the full story here because we've integrated a long standing development branch. The new VJamm 3 is the culmination of 3 years of work - to build a full streaming realtime AV playback system with true timebase. This version allows you to stream clips off your hard drive so you can have very long and very big videos in all clip slots with fast patch loads. These streamed clips have the same very fast VJamm response and perfect AV sync as the ones we know from before with audio preload.

All the best for the New Year,

Russell

When I started using Vjamm, one beta followed after the other and it seemed that it was worked on at a daily basis. Nowadays the forums are quiet, Blueprint development is sleeping, and the last Vjamm-beta came in August.
What are the plans for Vjamm? Will development continue, and if so in what direction?
The last beta seems to open a door for more than 16 clips in a patch, correct me if I'm wrong.

Any news appreciated!

Cheers,
Finally my old craptop will be replaced, but the new one (Dell Studio 15) lacks a LPT-port, so I'd have to upgrade one of my dongles (still own 4) to usb, unless a USB-to-LPT cable also works, which is obviously much cheaper. Any experience with this, or can you tell me rightaway that it isn't an option?
